There are few things better to me than a great new discovery. When that discovery is music related? Even better. But, the cherry on top of the proverbial sundae is when something new mixes with something old—a new angle on an old familiar friend. The upcoming collaboration between St Vincent and David Byrne works on so many levels; a classic artist who has been making innovative music for decades + a young artist who is already making herself known as a future classic. The result of this fusion is exactly what you would expect—a beautifully discordant, yet melodious cacophony of jangled guitars, saxophones, and both of the performer's distinctive vocals—in other words, supremely and wonderfully strange. Needless to say, I am counting down the days until "Love This Giant" is released (out Sept. 11).
